I also have the option to specify that I should pay all fees on the receiving end so that the person to whom I send the money really gets the full amount. Certainly this is not as convenient as credit cards, but it beats wire transfers and personal checks. If someone sends me a non-Swiss check, my bank will charge me 24 CHF (around $15) in fees and it will take up to a month before the money is credited, especially with a US check.
