The noise of the Leica winder was very loud, but some kind soul on this group sent me a link that illustrated how to repair it. After tearing it down and refitting some gaskets, the electric leica winder got much quieter, but it is no where near as quiet as the Rapid Winder. I was shooting a family baptism and there was a photography restriction. I shot a few frames for the pastor and he gave me the OK after hearing the total lack of noise from the Leica and the Winder combination. A sample of the resulting shots can be found at www.lianza.org/tlphotos/People and Family/The Baptism.jpg (note: copy the entire line above to see the image) Note that the I framed the scene with the camera rotated. I was able to get off about 10 frames in less than 10 seconds in NEAR SILENCE. I used Fuji 800 and a Voigtlander 35mm Ultron wide open. at 1/30th of a second. There was NO light in the church to speak of . That experience made a believer out of me. (oh, pardon the pun...) I'll probably sell my electric winder soon. It is much quieter now, but I feel that the Rapid Winder puts less stress on the body and it is very quiet. The rapid winder and grip are very dear, but in some cases it is the difference between getting the shot and coming up short... That's the math you have to do.
