Subject: [Leica] Leica and off-camera strobe

John;

Getting the strobe off the camera opened a lot of options with flash for
me. Its not really hard but does take a little practice. A Vivitar 283
and a Paramount cable (I think it is a 5 foot coiled version - I have a
spare and can get the exact model if you want) is all you need. The
Paramount is a much sturdier cable than anything Vivitar offers and it
seems to stay connected to the Leica.

With a 35mm lens (or wider) at f5.6 you have a lot of room to work - a lot
more room than you think at times. And with practice you will become good
at balancing the camera, strobe, film advance, and making sure you don't
trip over something as you move with the subject.

Oh, an external power pack for the 283 which really helps recycle times.

"Maybe someone can enlighten me on this? How do you shoot a Leica and
off-camera strobe, held in the left hand, and focus at the same time?
I'm not talking about still stuff either, where you can take all day,
but moving things, people, etc."
