I've wondered for years, if you SUBTRACT university salaries and grants, how many "artists" are earning a reasonable living in the US???? I'm talking about money from the production and sale of art, NOT to university collections and without any tax-payer funds contributing to its production. I bet we could count the number of "artists" on two hands that break $50K/year NET income without "public" or university funding--and without other 'business' interests (camera/equipment sales, etc!!)... Note that I'm talking about "fine" art, NOT editorial/advertising/etc....obviously thousands of photographers and artists earn their living for hire....that's NOT what I mean.....
