All R lenses except the latest apo/asph/zoom are incredibly cheap nowadays and offer outstanding build-quality for the money and still very good optical performance. Shorter than 28mm gets pretty much expensive and bulky, particularly for indoors where you possible would want a 2.8/19 rather than a 4/21. The R2.8/135 works nicely with "Elpro" or any B&W E55 close-up lens (but go for the achromats), say up to 1:3, and is fast enough for use with a 2x extender (USD250 to USD350 for older non-apo version). If you are more serious into sports and birds at a distance you may consider a 2.8/180, 4/250 or 6.8/400 Telyt which however are all a little bit bulky for other than special occasions, but still very reasonably priced second hand (say USD500+, later versions more). For (indoor) portraits and for filling an eventual gap between the 50mm and any 180mm+ lens you may consider a R2/90 (say USD600+). In total you may fing it very difficult to spend your entire budget on additional R lenses. Hans-Peter Hans-Peter - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
