Thanks for the comments. One of the few shortcoming of the Minilux is the lack
of control over the fill flash. This picture shows how it can be pretty
overpowering, even on a sunny day, especially because the subject was so close.
Really, the slide is not as contrasty as the scan, so the lighting difference
is not as dramatic, but the color of the light *is* different as it was a very
'warm' day color-wise. But with 100VS on a sunny day, fill flash is pretty much
required (especially when the subject is wearing a hat!).

The background is real, it was my daughter's first trip to the pumpkin patch,
and just to prove it I added another shot from the same day :
