Marty, you just found one of the best kept secrets of Leica
world. The Aristophot system was sold in the late fifties
for close-up work and was made with typical Leica quality.
The best and only model to buy is the Model III with the
Linhof back. This takes a Linhof roll film holder so you can
use Tech Pan. The shutter system is mounted in rubber and
has a micro focus system that is the best I have ever seen.
A whole set of fifties 35mm close-up accessories fit on the
rail for use with the M or R. Three systems have come up on
e-bay in the last month and sold in the $200-$400 range.
They must have cost thousands when new. Bill
