Dave, I've worked in "gang" darkrooms since I was a teen..we have about 
180 students at any given time.....I've seen ONE (only) 
example of a real "photo"  allergy...girl I went to high school with was VIOLENTLY allergic 
to Metol (Elon)....If this is the case for you, simply to change to a 
phenidone based developer (Ilford has some, don't recall which)...
  Other than this ONE example, I can't say I've ever seen/heard of any more, 
but IF you think you have "it", an allergy specialist will be able to 
prove/disprove it...you might have to "coach" him in the constituents of 
chemicals you use...

Most of the chemicals we use are "irritants" or hazardous in SOME concentration...
the "real" hazards are probably insignificant, at the dilutions and times 
of exposure we generally experience...you're probably in more danger going to 
the mall.........

Good luck, we'd hate to "lose" another darkroom worker to digital!!!
