I'll have to take your word for the fact that they can in your experience.
It hasn't been my experience that they could tell any difference.
  I and a
co-worker have often mixed Leica and Nikon (as well as other formats). Not
once has anyone noticed the difference, even in color. Please don't accuse us
of being hacks, we have 60 years combined experience employed daily in
some form of photography, using 35mm through 8x10. I should qualify that we
use ONLY prime lenses, no zooms, and use the "standard of the industry" equipment
in the darkrooms (Omega, beseler, schnieder, nikkor, Hope, etc.)
My co-worker Brent SAYS he can tell Leica shots on the light table, but that
has NOT ever been proven in practice...the "consumer", publisher, etc, has NEVER
commented as to brand of equipment.

BD, all of the above is PROBABLY true!....you summed it up!
You may use the Leica equipment to
take shots which

Of course, I did these shots just fine with my Nikon S2, whose lenses were
at least as good as Leica's until the latest generations. Now that they're
available, I'd say the Konica or Bessa R would do an equal job.....BUT I'd
be very afraid of future reliability and repairs....the japanese don't have
a stellar reputation for "product support"...so it's still Leica RF for me...
