In fact it took me five years to make up my mind. What I wanted was color enlargements from slides. I had had experience with both Canon and Nikon systems back then and found both systems wanting. The quality in the final prints just wasn't there. So the reason it took so long to decide was that I was choosing between Leica and Hasselblad. I felt I'd need the larger negative format, but I didn't want the weight and awkwardness of using a medium format system like that. I had friends, however, with Leicas, and they kept telling me to get a Leica. After a lot of hemming and hawing I went for Leica R, at that time an R3. When I got my first enlargements back, I was astounded by the quality that 35 mm can provide through Leica products. In the years since then I have been slowly accumulating more and more Leica R things, including one each of the basic R cameras. I have an R8, and it is a wonderful camera in my opinion, It is easily the best of the R cameras I think. Anyway, I have always been and still am extremely glad that I chose to go with Leica R. I did it 25 years ago, and I have never looked back.
