I'd almost believe the story having seen equipment supplied by the paper for
their staff newsphotographers and how they treated the gear
because...."someone else bought it and if it got broke! Someone else paid
for it to be fixed or replaced.!"

Compared to those of us who pay for and maintain the working order of our
own equipment. I'm not saying all the news shooters treat gear badly,
however I've seen some scary use at times by some of them. :-(

And the use  the gaffer tape on the bottom of the base plate? Naw, what the
heck just let it wear a bit as it gives the camera a look of class! ;-)
