They are a fairly high volatility family of esters so evaporation removes almost all traces of compound from film etc. Also, asthmatics nearby weren't offended although that should be a case by case trial. Last, PEC-12 will melt plastics used in some camera's and lenses so I would test carefully and diligently before using them on anything besides film. I say this because some prior discussions indicated that Leica was using "plastic" retaining rings to hold lens elements in place and use of a solvent on the exterior risks leakage to the interior.
