Just as a matter of interest, what film are you scanning? Is it by chance Kodachrome? Also have you tried adjusting the scanner settings to compensate?

A further suggestion may be to download the trial version of Vuescan from www.hamrick.com and try that to see if there is an improvement.

As the Nikon range are almost industry standard it is difficult to understand why you are having problems.
