Welcome back to Erwin. Perhaps the discussion can be kept civil and Erwin
will stick around for some time.
Leica has not made their own filters for quite some time, and some of the
literature Leitz put out in the 70's and 80's was misleading on this.
Perhaps Erwin could give us some insight here as to who is making filters for
Leica, or are there various suppliers?
On several visits to the Solms factory, I have noticed many boxes with the
HOYA name on them. I presume these to be lens blanks to be made into
elements.
As to the VanRiper article, I specifically asked Herr Cohn about the MF and
M6 AE camera. I reported this in VF in the Photokina 2000 story. He denied
that Leica has any plans for a MF camera and that his discussion at dinner
with VanRiper and several other journalists was misinterpreted. As to the M6
AE, he would not commit his remarks to be published. I have been told for at
least the last three years by various sources that this camera is coming, but
I wonder in who's lifetime. I am always amazed at how long it takes Leica to
do what others have done 20 years ago. For instance, SLR's, hot shoes,
rewind cranks, TTL flash metering, etc. Back to the future! Not that I don't
love Leica, but it can be an extremely frustrating wait for innovation to
arrive.
