Yes. Palm reading for middle grey and one stop more for zone VI. I
don't know if this is technically correct but this is what I end up
doing.

I hear you but if the illumination from where you are standing is
different than the scene than just meter the scene directly with the
spot meter. This is why I think a spot meter offer more choices. Then
again the new Sekonic 608 seems to do everything.
