My family, thank you, would never be so crude as to restrict themselves to
a single fifth on any given day.  In any event, on this, the 225th birthday
of our national independence, even "three fifths on the Fourth" would be
inadequate.  We're sticking to quarts, mind you, albeit even these have now
been corrupted to the 34-ounce liter in place of the honest 32-ounce quart.

On the one hand, I am an officer in the local chapter of the Sons of the
American Revolution, albeit my qualifying ancestors hadn't a plaint against
the Crown -- they were off fighting Native American Agrarian Reformers on
the Frontier when that unseemly business on the Coast was occurring.  On
the other hand, I just got off the phone, wishing a good friend a happy
Fourth -- he is a retired Royal Navy Lt Commander who chanced to be "the
last man off of HMS Hood" before her demise, and now the British Channel 4
Factual folks are off searching for that lamented ship's remains.
