Subject: RE: [Leica] Anarchist riots in Gothenburg

I heard that they used live ammunition, and that at least one demonstrator was seriously injured by a gunshot. I must say it surprised me to see Swedish police react so strongly; but then I'd have expected the Canadian police to show more restraint than they did in Quebec City as well.

Having been through the '68 riots in Paris, the sight of those cobblestones made me all nostalgic :-/ (I still have two stones from Boul Mich on my shelf at home). I expect the paving crews will be busy laying asphalt over them like they did in Paris.

I'm left wondering what the appropriate police response is in these situations. I've always suspected that the ultimate damage (human and material) would be a lot less if the police just stayed at home, but I guess that approach wouldn't be politically acceptable.

Sorry there's no Leica content in this post.
Paul
