For most of the consumer-level stuff, it's hardly any more expensive in the U.S., and most 35mm camera bodies are about the same. Where you see the price jump is in the lenses and accessories. It's interesting to see that Japanese MF stuff is much, much cheaper in Japan than elsewhere. Someone in the industry told me that in Japan, they have to be priced a lot lower than Hasselblads because Japanese photographers would not pay Hasselblad prices for Japanese cameras. On the otherhand, they have to be priced much higher, because American or European photographers would be suspicious that these cameras are inferior, if priced way below that of Hasselblad. As you can see, Mamiya and Bronica cameras, as far as I have seen, cost about twice as much in the U.S. than in Japan.
