Unfortunately some of these LUG nut cases think everything must be made in Germany, which of course is bull shit (pardon me ladies) simply because the plants are completely set up with Solms designs and overseers and methods. Which must be compiled with or Leica "Germany suffers" because everything falls apart. This "Made in Germany syndrome" is a complete crock, don' we read all kinds of posts about QC out of Solms and the mistakes that slip through to the buyers? I'd almost imagine it would behooving to buy something made in Portugal simply because there might be a higher level of QC there than what seems to slip through at the Solms level. Similarly all the nonsense about, "Are the lenses and cameras marked "Made in Canada" as good as those made in Germany?" Of course they are, and in some cases better, as has been stated here on many occasions. So the dummies whining, "I don't want anything marked Portugal or any other place than Germany" are just that, "dummies living in an age long past!" just my humble opinion for a nice Saturday morning. The grump has landed! ;-) ted Ted Grant Photography Limited www.islandnet.com/~tedgrant - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lucien" <director@ubi.edu> To: <leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us> Sent: Saturday, April 21, 2001 7:16 AM Subject: Re: [Leica] R8 serial number > > > César Bernardo wrote: > > > Why, do you think there are more quality on the products made at Germany? > > You are wrong and I invite you to visit the factory at Vila Nova de > > Famalicão - Portugal, to verify the professionalism. > > > > Many luggers think there no quality at the leica products made at Portugal. > > I´m sad for it. > > > > The Leica M6 from this year on will be made in Portugal, and I ask you if > > you are going to stop buying it? > > Cèsar, > > All the persons I know that have visited the Leica Portugal factory told me > that they were more impressed by it than by Solms Factory. > And the reputation of the management there is outstanding. > > I think we should be glad that the major part of the M6 is assembled in > Portugal. > > Lucien >
