Most people think of the square in terms of how they will cut it down to fit an 8x10 sheet, but I see it as a gorgeous aspect ratio in its own right. (None of the Rollei shots on my site have been trimmed.) >> In 1976 Hasselblad published a pamphlet called "Square Composition" praising the square format. It gave hints about compositional tricks which could make the best use of a square and illustrated these with some mighty impressive examples of photography. This pamphlet, or a more modern version, might be available at a major Hasselblad dealer. That being said, if you don't plan to make enlargements above 10x10 inches you will see little incremental quality improvement in moving from 35mm to 6x6 cm. On the other hand you will incur vastly increased film expenses and find a smaller range of emulsions available, not to mention considerable costs for modification of your darkroom.
