Ah... Group Think Orthodoxy in action. Express any opinion
which goes even slightly against the flow and you can expect
the following:

"Prove it! This is just opinion! Show Me The Evidence!"

... so you give clear examples. Then the response is...

"This is fake! I refuse to believe it! This guy must be
trolling! There is something underhand going on here!"

... well no, there isn't. Both of you are just plain wrong.

No manipulation, no sleight of hand - fly out to Australia and
I will show you the original C41 negatives the flare examples
were taken from. Indeed, on the neg they look far worse than
the scans I uploaded.

When you examine the negs you will also see that shots taken
immediately before and after the 2 examples came out fine.
Sharp, in focus, no flare. Same lens, same f-stops. While
you are at it, you can also examine the lens and see that it
is brand new and the glass is clean and in mint, just-out-of-
the-box condition. You will notice that there is no UV filter.
What about the camera? A six month old (ie. new) M6 0.85 TTL.

So you can ignore bad film loading, lens fungus, old lens,
hole-in-the-shutter, airport x-rays or other deus-ex-machina
living-in-denial excuses. Point this lens near the sun or
strong light source and it will flare. Not always of course,
but when it does, it really does it big-time.

As to the aesthetic merits of the examples - I never made any
claims that they were Outstanding Works Of Art, merely that
they were examples of 35mm M Summicron ASPH flare. Duh.

You want to see the shots I keep? Then check out and critique
(if you dare...) the "everyday life" images on my 4020.net site.

:?)
