"My" independant repairman claims that nowadays Leica employs engineers
with diplomas from university or technical college as repairmen.

The "German" system of apprenticeship has remained unchanged and
basically dates back to the medievial guilt system. The academic part at
school is more important today. Large firms tend to complement that and
the practical on-the-job training by additional, in-house training
workshops and classes.

If there is a change in Leica's repair services, it is related to
business policy and availability of spares rather than bottlenecks in
skilled staff.
