Don't dismiss the black paint M4 because is has a chrome baseplate so
quickly....
It could be an M4-MDa.
In 1969/70 Leitz New York manufactured MdaMOT for use on the Zeiss
Fundus machine. This left them with M4-M and M4 MOT cameras without parts
necessary for motor use. These leftovers were fitted with an MDa body
castings (grooved body casting for a identification strip.) and came with
chrome baseplates.
These cameras were sold to employees and friends of the company. A good
number of them went to pros like myself.
So, look at the engraving on the top, and check the film gate. you might
have a nice little collectible there.
