There are mechanical timers that screw in the cable release hole in the 
center of the shutter release. Ask your favorite camera shop or try a 
mail order seller of Leica gear.

Because the battery goes where the timer was.

You might search the LUG Archives about these subjects. you will find 
plenty of references and probably a source and brand names for the timer.
