Add that to eyesight that may be fractionally off and focussing errors can
be very easy to achieve.  1/4 inch is not much to play with.  I sometime
have hit and miss focussing with the Noctilux at f/1, given a mixture of low
light, bad eyesight and no depth of field worth mentioning.
