I have a forerunner of the 026 that I modified to go up to 1.05m
without the center column and 1.6m with the column extended. I put a
smallish Cullman ballhead on it as these are a lot smoother than the
Gitzos, Manfrottos, etc. The Cullman's are also more compact. Get the
smallest one that has a separate lock for the pan motion. This combo
is my standard vacation Leica set for those emergency encounters.
With the center column down it's fine for any Leica M lens as long as
the wind isn't too strong, and with the column up all the way, it's
fine for 50mm and under.
