Marc might be inviting me to join the conversation here...
I have both a Komura (2 in fact) and a Fed converter, I wish I could say
that there was a time when I'd want to use any of them, sadly there isn't.
Having tested them all, (and there's very little difference) the image is
not acceptable until at least 2 stops down from max. aperture. And even
then it's not good, stopping down further improves again but who wants a
180mm F8 lens?
You'd probably be better using a slower film and blowing the enlargement
up.
Jem

I did find a 180mm f4.5(?) Schneider which was made without r/f coupling,
that's about as useful as the teleconverters!

Is the FED converter any better optically? Do you know?

Well, I have one of the FED tele-converters and use it occasionally with a
2/85 Jupiter-9 or 2/8.5cm CZJ Tessar T. It is pretty good optically,
better, in my estimation, than the Komura, though I believe a couple of
folks on the LUG have and like the Komura converter.
