The Contax RTS system is a joint enterprise, originally between Carl Zeiss and Yashica and, after Yashica went belly-up and was purchased by Kyoto Ceramics, between Kyocera and Carl Zeiss. The Contax name is owned by Zeiss and the cameras are jointly designed and patented; production of the camera bodies is by Kyocera and the lenses are, for the most part, made at the former Taminon plant owned by Kyocera but subject to Zeiss QC and final inspection.
