Thanks Joe, Tom, Jim and Robert,

I found the gate you're referring to, and it is still intact, springs and
all.  It does appear that the one arm holds the slide just a tad more snug
than the other, but my attempts to bend it a bit further with a screwdriver
and needle nose pliers proved fruitless and I finally gave up figuring that,
hey, at least it works _half_ right. :)

I'll put up with it for as long as I can and then I'll go get me a better
projector.
