"Hi Lionel,
While there are good Leica dealers in New York, such
as B&H or PhotoVillage
(Rich, who advertises here on Fridays), you will find
that with the current
$/EUR exchange rates, prices are better in Germany
than in the U.S.

Don Chatterton is advertising M6-TTL .85 Black or
Chrome, new USA, for US$1995.00 (14,044 french
francs).
Even cheaper (-US$500) for "unused in sealed box."

In Paris, the cost of a new M6 TTL is FF19,900
(US$2,826). Prices in Germany are about the same,
perhaps slightly more. By the way a USED M6 (classic)
here (in Paris, where there is a BIG Leica used
market) goes for around ff13,000 (US$1,846).

If you can get the camera back through European
customs without paying duty (I find adding black tape
and putting on an old lens, while sending the empty
box by post, does the trick), then NY is FAR CHEAPER
than Europe. No question.

The moral of the story? NY is cheaper, Europe has
expensive sales tax, and US luggers should buy now
while prices are low. Especially now the euro is
getting its own back on the greenback.
