Strangely i have found that the French do not regard HCB as a great
'capturer' of French life but have more respect for Robert Doissneau and
Willy Ronis. I suspect they feel that HCB deserted them for other places when
he joined Magnum and had the opportunity, whereas Doissneau and Ronis stayed
true to France. Whilst I am a great lover of HCB's work and regard him with
awe, I have empathy with the French thinking on this.
