I agree with Jim that pure Resin and lots of it is the way to go although I may
have done only 3 coats and a forth on the bottom surface where the trays rest.

It's nice to see the wood through it there is no more livable surface to be
around you can still make out the wood pattern nicly through multitudinous coats;

and at least for black and white work the resin will repel your darkroom
chemicals and stay looking pretty good.

One of these decades i might sand mine down again and give it a few more coats
to make it look totally good as new.

8 years, so far so good. Occasionally I'll leave my trays out a few days and
don't wash up well enough.
So my surface is not perfect. My cubetainer of indicator stop bath was dripping
down on it for a week and seems to have made a purple stain. Also a slight stain
from where my cubetainer of Rabid fix A has dripped. I now use not a white
spigot but the hole style.
