Stopped down for dof, the Apo's advantage in optical performance over the conventional 4/100 or 2.8/60 will partially disappear. Opened up, shooting three dimensional objects at close distance large parts of the image are unsharp anyway. I therefore consider the Apo 100 as a reasonably fast general purpose lens with a great macro option. Used for macro work only, its merits would be wasted. Hans-peter
