To be specific, a CC30M to correct for flourscent lights. They are VERY thin. I use them both ways either in front or behind the lens. I have never noticed any image degradation with them. With my 16mm Fish-Eye Elmarit-R, I had a ring made to mount a gelatin filter on the back element. As someone mentioned eariler, the biggest problem with gels is dirt and fingerprints and the only fix is replacement when they get dirty. As for glass filters, the Leica School taugh me when using filters try to stop your lens down a little to cover any image degradation. They also said the greatest image loss was with wide angle lenses, because of the larger defraction angles of the light rays. The closer the light rays get to perpendicular to the lens the less chance of defraction. In other words the longer the lens the less loss. Finally, didn't anyone read Irwin's post about the filter use. To paraphrase, He found almost NO noticable difference. In other words, this is a worthless topic. Happy Snaps, Sal
