lugnutz,

on the subject of less than lighthearted war movies, the most depressing i
have ever seen is without a doubt 'come and see' by a. klimov, who was, if
i am not mistaken, the last director of the soviet film industry. the
subject is the nazi invasion of byelorussia, during which some 600 villages
were destroyed and most of their inhabitants murdered. it is a relentlessly
brutal film that more that gives a new, frighteningly literal meaning to
the world 'weltschmerz.' not for the faint of heart.

guy

p.s. to keep this off-topic, there are *no* leicas, just russian civilians
being slaughtered by nazi soldiers.
