Subject: Re: [Leica] Ball- or 3 way-head

I'm not an expert on tripod stuff, but I recently bought a novoflex mini
magic ball which is a terrific head for the M and up to an F100 with
shortish lens. Icredibly smooth, locks very tight, nice colours, small and
heavy. Apparently they also make a larger version. It's designed backwards
from a normal ballhead, with the ball attaching to the tripod legset and
the square bit mounting to the camera.

Very nice, not cheap (I think around 150 US), no fancy friction controls or
anything. My wife is very pleased with it. Being lazy, I can never be
bothered to use it.

The few times I have used a tripod I've found ballheads to be infinitely
preferable to the floppy coupling variety.
