John,

I will be a voice of dissent here. I have tried Vuescan with my Nikon LS-2000
with no improvement over the Nikon software (but a more clunky interface), and
most recently with my Epson Perfection Photo 1200 which I use for my medium
format negatives. With the Epson, the Vuescan results were clearly WORSE than
those obtained with the Epson software.

Having said all this, given the $40 price you should simply try it for
yourself and decide. You can actually download a fully functional demo
version. It is identical to the one you get when you cough up the money except
that there is a watermark (grid pattern) imposed onto the picture to make it
unusable. But for testing the program it is fine.
