This is an old problem on the LUG, and checking the archives will show the
solution I've offered to LUGGERs before. Simply select a lens, say 35mm, an
aperture, say f/4, and a shooting distance, say 6ft. Calculate the DOF for
this, get your child out, put them in the middle of the floor of a room,
strap them into a walking harness, and nail the leash down into the floor,
allowing only it to be only so long that they will always remain within the
DOF. Problem solved: Shoot away.
