Just use a regular suitcase (roll up the lenses in undershirts) and buy
insurance for your luggage.  Put the bodies in your carryon, since they're 1000
times more likely to fail as a result of being bumped.

All of this attracts a lot less attention and it's cheaper.

If they're small, expensive items, you might consider using Express Mail.  Its
minimum insurance is $500, will get there before your luggage (if you are
flying Northwest), and it's not that expensive to send a box.
