Actually, many of the iconic "decisive moments" could just as well have
been captured using a tripod: the man jumping across a puddle, the cyclist
going past the curving stairs and many others. You surely don't think that
they only shot _one_ frame of those events, do you?
Using a tripod is simply a matter of personal choice that says absolutely
nothing about the kind of picture that's going to come out. Just look at
Bruce Davidson's East 100th Street (or whatever) - all done with large
format - not handheld!
