Hi Mark,

Actually the photo was shot while doing a feature story on the leadership
campaign with writer Bob McKeown for WEEKEND magazine. In those days the
magazines always returned everything to the photog after publication.  And
if you did an exceptionally good shoot they paid a bonus. I got a bonus!
;-)

When I moved to Victoria I had such an extensive photo file from close to
30 years shooting around the world, the movers wanted $10 G's just for the
files alone! So I turned it all over to the National Archives where they
had a Ted Grant collection within the National Photo Collection.

I kept many key negs and slides, the Trudeau B&W one of them.  CP have a
number of my editorial B&W images as stock in CANAPRESS and that's how they
had use of it. They called and wanted to know if I was OK with them putting
it in the Trudeau obit picture package they we're assembling. Obviously
"yes!" And they paid me up front months ago. A good fee! ;-)

Do I own the copyright ? Yep and CP have to check with me anytime they use
any images of national or international figures.  Can the Globe run the
picture again?  Yep, as long as they pay for it again and if they don't
.... lawyer time!

I figure a book or two will be done yet and that photo will probably make
me more money today, than what I was paid for the original assignment in
'68. :-)

So there we are me old son. Another TG tail of the past. ;-)
