My 50/2 is marked down to 1.5', and the barrel appears to focus so as to 
match the marking.  I have not tried to focus this lens to that distance in 
actual shooting.  I had a 50/1.4  LTM Nikon at one time which I did try 
successfully at that kind of distance.  By the way, has anyone mentioned that 
you write really large?
