so much hubbub and fluff! the actual meaning (absolute in every sense of
the word) of 'better' is:

the thing i stand to gain most from if i can persuade you that you need it.

at least, that's what it seems to mean here in the good ol' u. s. of a.,
birth place - perhaps - of the 'new and improved' item (itself an oxymoron).
