That is a good observation concerning the maximum apertures, but I believe 
the Elmarits have been and are all 2.8's.  The Elmars, both 50 and 35, 
started at 3.5, then the 50 became a 2.8.  Of course, we must also include 
the 105/6.3 "Mountain Elmar".  In the R's, the Vario-Elmars have been various 
apertures and focal lengths.
Finally, I forgot Xenon, the "Warrior Prince" of 50's, also a Schneider 
design.  (Gawd, but I love this stuff).
