In 25 years of professional photography, and all the professionals I know,
I don't know any who actually uses the DOF preview. I'm sure some people
do use it, I just don't know any. Perhaps it's a Left Coast thing ;-)

Every lense I have has a DOF scale. I (and everyone else I know) simply
use that, and get exactly what I want. Now, I really don't know what is
meant by "in focus", ie, are the fringes of the DOF scale really "in
focus"...but I can say that using the DOF scale has worked great for me for
25 years...

On the other hand, I tend to like very flat DOF, (one reason why I like the
Leica lenses, they do have amazing bokeh ;-), so for the most part, I tend
to like to shoot full open, or pretty close to it...unless for a specific
purpose I want the background in focus.

I'd really be curious as to how many SLR users on this list actually use
the DOF preview???
