If you look at this (sorry I don't know how to turn it

 you will see that the leftmost adapter, for the 28mm to
50mm lenses, had a third of the circle milled out so that
the infinity catch on the Elmar and Summaron lenses will
clear the adapter.  I can't answer for the Japanese copies.
