That reminds me of driving from Alaska to Los Angeles in the summer of 1965 with a Austin-Healy 3000 with a so-so fuel pump that would quit periodically. I would have to lift up a cover behind the passenger seat where I could give the fuel pump a good whack with a wrench and it would start working again. Did that for about 3,000 miles and got to LA in time for the Watts Riot. The car was stolen about a week after I arrived and I got shot twice by a sniper while standing at a bus stop. Steve Annapolis
