Hi Michael and everyone,
As a lurker, I usually have little to say. I enjoy the LUG for what it is.
However, when posts such as this are put up for all to read, I have to step
up and say what I feel.
Michael, you are wrong. The pictures which you describe have everything
in this world to do with you and those you know.
You don't see it every day so you can ignore it. But all those things happen
on this earth daily and we can't ignore it. If we aren't in it, we are
responsible to change it, help it or just tell the story so others can offer
their assistance. There are reasons that the photos of Nachtwey, Capa...etc
are disturbing. These people CAN take the photos. I can't. Because of their
ability, the rest of the world can react. As a global society, we are
responsible for our world. If we can use blue boxes to recycle plastic, we
can give our time and efforts to help those who can't help themselves. This
is humanity. Wake up, it's not a tiny part of humanity; it is an
overwhelming part of it.
OK, I'm off my soapbox. All photography has a purpose; you just have to
SEE it.
Sincerely,
Owen
