I wouldn't say Tom is "instructing" us to use the Rapidwinder without the
basket. He's stating his preference, based on his personal experience. I
tried the Rapidwinder without the basket. It's a bit like loading an older M
body (like an M2) and workable if you get used to feeling for the sprockets;
but, personally, I'm used to M6 loading and a basket works better for me.
