Remember I'm working in Ecuador and a vest is pickpocket/slashers dream...... besides that it announces you've got something to steal to everyone from within a block or so.. Which is why I like the Domke 803. I do like using the vest for trips to our Hydroelectric construction sites or for rainy days in the Highlands. It is often a bit cold to begin with and better yet I can wear it under my Goretex jacket to keep stuff dry and it is handy. It tends to rain alot and thus is very muddy around the site and when you fall your bag doesn't hit the mud.... I'm always sinking up past the top of my rubber boots anyhow and the bag is one more thing to worry about slipping off... I find that the vest is too hot for a lot of other places and I prefer to be able to set down equipment or hang it from a tree whenever I can... Which is a lot easier to do with a bag. But like anything in the photographic world, one set of equipment, film, technique, bag or vest will not be the best solution for every situation.
